Emily and Matt became husband and wife on a spring day that I had been looking forward to for the longest time. Their rainy and romantic North Georgia wedding began with the most beautiful ceremony at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church and ended with a reception at West Milford Farm where they danced the night away with all their closest friends and family.
These two booked me right in the middle of COVID and from the beginning, their positivity and simple joy stood out to me. They were a couple I immediately connected with and their love for each other and their loved ones was so evident from the first phone call I had with them. Leading up to their day, the weather forecast was a 100% chance of rain. A day or two before their wedding I opened my phone to a message from Emily that said “we can’t wait to dance in the rain with you!!!” If that doesn’t say anything about the type of people they are, I don’t know what does.
Rainy weddings are some of my absolute favorite to shoot because of the moody ambiance and somewhat unpredictable and raw nature of the day that just isn’t the same when it is sunny outside. It creates an amazing intimacy that was present throughout Matt and Emily’s entire day. While it rained most of the morning, it stopped early afternoon and held off for the majority of the day. I was able to create some of the most romantic images with Emily and Matt at West Milford in their stunning greenhouse and field. The day ended with the most beautiful toasts, dancing, and a send-off led by a bagpiper who played a huge role in the proposal. (He was playing on the steps of St Patrick’s cathedral in New York when Emily was there with her friends, and while she stopped to take a photo with him, Matt came out from behind a corner to surprise her!)
